The Forgotten Warriors
AWAN'TA'SUALTE'WK SMA'KNISK
On November 25th, as part of Restorative Justice Month and Memorial University's Research Week, the screening was followed by a discussion panel with Traditional Chief Mi’sel Joe, film Director Noel Joe, Cole Kippenhuck, Gemma Hickey, Roger Maunder of Up Sky Down Films.
The Forgotten Warriors is the unbelievable true story of the courageous last stand by Mi'kmaq activists from Conne River, N.L. In 1983, a group of nine individuals risked their lives by beginning a hunger strike in a desperate plea to government to release funds owed to them. It was an act of courage and determination fuelled by a hunger for justice - justice for their families, for those who came before them and for those who would come behind.

Director Noel Joe narrates this compelling documentary and recounts the tale with first-hand commentary from the hunger strikers, those who assisted their efforts in 1983, as well as family members.
